Plastic regulations in Mexico

Plastic regulations in our country have made very little progress, although some laws encourage the prohibition of certain plastics, however, the legislation and the objectives are not clear, they do not solve the pollution problem that we face.

Globally, an agreement has been made on the importance of reducing single-use plastics and for this, they seek to apply various measures and bet on implementing plastic regulations, however, none of these should be based on prohibition or penalty, the real solution lies in the rationalization by governments, companies, and consumers of the importance of the circular economy in this area and what is the role that each one plays.

Plastics are present everywhere

If we continue to dump plastic waste into the sea at the rate we are, it will only take a couple of decades for the amount of plastic to exceed the fish in the sea. In addition, this type of plastic reaches the smallest species in the form of microplastics, they are mistaken for food, and those species with which we usually feed ourselves have consumed these plastics at least once in their lives. For this reason, it is said that human beings ingest them in this way.

In Mexico, plastic regulations show progress, but none with real force. In the case of our market, plastic containers, there is an adequate infrastructure to start recycling them, without a doubt, there are many advances that can be made, however, we are the number one country in recycling in all of America.

Among the first actions to be taken so that recycling can be increased is to know in depth the different plastics, the correct way to separate them, promote recycling technology to increase infrastructure, and promote environmental education and responsible consumption. How would you like to start?
